Distribution Advances and Broadcast License Fees PDF Print E-mail

Although the license fees payable under a “pre-sale” license agreement are basically made in instalments when certain milestones are achieved, producers often need more monies up-front to meet the cash-flow requirements of the production. They often arrange to have the license fee interim-financed by a bank (see
Interim Financing: What, Where and How for more details).

In addition to a license fee, a broadcaster may also make an equity investment in the program and a production may be eligible for a license top-up fee from the Canadian Television Fund (CTF).
