Newfoundland and Labrador Incentives

Newfoundland and Labrador Film and Video Industry Tax Credit
This tax credit, administered by the Newfoundland and Labrador Film Development Corporation, is equal to the lesser of 40% of eligible labour expenditures in Newfoundland and Labrador or 25% of the total eligible budget. There is a project cap of $1 million per 12-month period and a corporate cap of $2 million per 12-month period.

Eligibility
  • The production company must be federally or provincially incorporated in Canada.
  • The production company must have a permanent establishment in Newfoundland or Labrador.
  • The production company must be primarily engaged in the business of film, television or video production.
  • The production company must have total assets of less than $25 million.
  • The production company must pay 25% of its salaries to eligible employees (generally residents) in Newfoundland and Labrador.
  • The production company must not be a broadcaster or a cable company.
Newfoundland and Labrador Equity Investment Program (EIP)
The Newfoundland and Labrador Equity Investment Program (EIP), administered by the Newfoundland and Labrador Film Development Corporation (NFLDC), assists in the financing of costs associated with a film or video project. Eligible producers can receive equity investment (financial contributions) which are repaid from earned revenue resulting from production. Through the EIP, the NFLDC also provides loans in respect of the development of an idea through the stages of research, writing, market analysis and costing.

Eligibility
  • Only Newfoundland and Labrador film and video production companies are eligible.
  • The production company must be primarily engaged in the development, production and distribution of film and video products.
  • The production company must be at least 51% owned by a resident of Newfoundland and Labrador (a person who has maintained a principal residence in Newfoundland and Labrador for 12 consecutive months immediately prior to the date of application).
  • Individuals, non-incorporated groups or broadcasters are not eligible.
